Portable Appliance Testing Tavistock
Why PAT Test
All companies (how ever big or small), Local groups, village halls etc, need to meet legal obligations so as to ensure the safety of staff, visitors and volunteers.
Legal requirements
Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 ,
Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999 ,
Electricity at Work Regulations 1989,
Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992,
Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998
Users checks prior to using Portable appliance
There is an onus on the user of electrical equipment to report unsafe or damaged electrical equipment and cables to a responsible person and not to use .
User must visually check the equipment, cables and sockets etc for obvious signs of damage. Any damage should be reported and the piece of equipment not used until it has been tested and repaired.
Hiring Community halls and Church Rooms
If you hire a village hall for a function and you wish to use your own electrical equipment it will normally have to have a valid PAT test label to say it has been tested.
So if you only want to use portable CD player or a full disco you may have to prove that your equipment has been tested.
